Bas Alferink
urban mobility & pedestrian consultant
Our mobility needs are constantly changing – and it’s precisely that dynamism that fascinates me. In my role as a urban mobility consultant, I have the opportunity every day to help shape future-proof and liveable towns and cities.
My area of expertise is the pedestrian. For a long time, pedestrians received little attention in the design of public spaces: streets were mainly for cars and bicycles, and only then for people on foot. Fortunately, that perception is changing, partly thanks to the STOMP principle. After all, we are all pedestrians! And a pleasant walking environment directly contributes to health, social interaction, and an attractive living environment.
At Goudappel, I lead the Pedestrian theme group. In this role, I work on a wide range of issues – from designing coherent pedestrian networks to analysing walking flows using our Loopstromenmodel. I combine this expertise with my background in Human Geography & Spatial Planning, which enables me to keep an eye on the bigger picture and maintain the connection with other modes of transport.
What drives me is contributing to a more beautiful and sustainable living environment. For me, working at Goudappel means being part of a forward-thinking team that focuses on topics that truly matter: active mobility, sustainability, and accessibility. Together, we ensure that the spaces around us invite people to move, meet, and experience.
